How to configure your PC to view Malayalam Text
In Windows-XP
System Configuration
- Go to "Control Panel" and then click
"Regional Language Options"
- Click on "Languages" tab and check
on the box which says "Install Files for complex scripts".
- This method will ask for Win XP CD. Put the CD
in the CD drive and let the installation begin.
- Once the installation is complete, reboot the
system if required.
- Download & Install Suitable Font
- Click on AnjaliOldLipi and save that file into your computer(This
is the most apropriate font which can display almost all letters
correctly) to download the font and save it.
- Locate your Windows installation directory (Usually it is "C:\Windows").
- Copy the above downloaded font-file and paste it in to "Fonts"
directory under your "Windows"
directory.
Browser Configuration
Internet Explorer.
- To specify preferred language:
- Select in browser menu: Tools > Internet
Options. This opens the Internet Options
window.
- Click on the "Languages..." button. This
opens the Language Preference window.
- Click on the "Add..." button.
- Choose language Malayalam(ml) from drop-down
list and click "OK".
- Click "OK" in the Language Preference
window, and then in the Internet Options window
to return to your browser.
- To specify the fonts used for each language:
- Select in browser menu: Tools > Internet
Options. This opens the Internet Options
window.
- Click on the "Fonts..." button. This
opens the Fonts window.
- Select the language you wish to modify in the drop-down
menu (here, Malayalam).
- In the two lower windows, select the font AnjaliOldLipi
you wish to use for Web browsing ("Web Page Font")
- Click "OK" in the Fonts
window, then in the Internet Options window
to return to your browser.
FireFox
- To specify preferred languages:
- Select in the browser menu: Tools >
Options... This opens the Options
window and then select Content.
- Select Advanced from Fonts &
Colors and this will open Fonts
Window
- Select Malayalam from the Fonts
for list.
- Choose Proportional as sans-serif
- Choose Serif as AnjaliOldLipi
, Sans-serif as Times New Roman
- Select Default Character Encoding from
Character Encoding as Unicode(utf-8)
- Click OK to apply the selections.
